To spring-clean a place is to thoroughly clean it, especially in spring.
The four seasons are: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
In the northern hemisphere, spring is the months of March, April and May.
In many countries (especially those with a cold climate in winter) people spring-clean their homes at the end of the winter. They clean their home and furnishings very well.
People sometimes use the expression spring-clean when they are thoroughly cleaning their home at other times of the year.
Examples of use:
1. We're spring-cleaning the house today.
2. My mum spring-cleans the whole house every March, and we all have to help!
3. News headline: English rivers to get a spring clean.
4. A group of volunteers from the community are giving their town a spring-clean this weekend.
