Phrasal Verb: live through

If somebody lives through something they experience a difficult or dangerous time, situation or event and survive it.

Examples of use:

1. My grandparents lived through The Second World War. It was a very difficult time but they survived.

2. We have lived through two recessions.

The WW2 People's War website from the BBC has an archive of 47,000 stories and 15,000 images sent in by people who lived through WW2.
