Phrasal Verb: drift apart

friends

When friends (or partners, or husband and wife) drift apart they slowly become less close or less friendly until one day the friendship or relationship ends.

Example of use:
Sarah and her boyfriend Ian seem to be drifting apart and we’re worried that they might split up.

infinitive – drift apart

present simple – drift apart

-ing form – drifting apart

past simple – drifted apart

past participle – drifted apart
